The short answer

One to two weeks, most of the time

Measured from the day you approve the draft, because that is when the publication’s clock starts.

A guaranteed placement has two clocks. The first is ours: the consultation, the angle and the draft, which usually take a few days and depend partly on how quickly you review. The second is the publication’s: the window between receiving the approved article and publishing it. That second window is what your written scope commits to.

We looked at the stated turnaround for every online publication we place. 19% publish within three days of approval, 24% in three to five days, 17% in about a week, 33% in one to two weeks, and 6% take longer than two weeks. A small group of large Canadian dailies sits at four to six weeks.

Plan on this: two to three weeks from first call to live link for a typical online placement. If you have a hard date, tell us at the start, because the outlet you choose is the biggest factor in how fast it runs.

What changes the date

What speeds a placement up, and what slows it down

Most delays happen before the article reaches the publication.

A clear goal and a named outlet at the start
Facts, figures and names ready for the writer
One person with authority to approve the draft
Photos and links supplied with the brief
Fast, consolidated feedback in one round
Choosing an outlet with a short stated window

What slows it down

  • Review by committee. Three people sending separate edits can add a week.
  • Claims that cannot be supported. Everything in the article has to be true, so unverified numbers get cut or checked.
  • Changing the angle after the draft is written.
  • Legal or compliance review on your side, which is common in finance, health and law. Build it into the plan.
  • Holidays and major news events, when publications run fewer scheduled pieces.

If timing is the main concern, the comparison in earned vs guaranteed vs paid media shows why pitched coverage cannot commit to a date at all, and how to get featured in major publications covers timing alongside cost.

Placement timeline FAQ

What people ask when they are working to a date.

How long does a guaranteed PR placement take?
Most go live within one to two weeks of your approving the draft, and many within a few days. Across the online publications we place, 60% publish within a week of approval. Allow two to three weeks from first call to live link.
Can a placement be done in under a week?
Yes, with the right outlet. Many digital publications publish within one to five days of approval. Tell us your deadline first so we recommend outlets whose stated window fits it.
When does the clock start?
The publication window starts when you approve the draft in writing. Drafting and your review come before that and usually take a few days in total.
What happens if the article is late?
Your scope states the delivery window and the refund terms. If the placement does not publish as written, you receive a full refund.
Why do some outlets take four to six weeks?
Some large newspapers have long internal queues for this kind of article. The window is stated in your scope before you pay, so you can choose a faster outlet if the date matters more than the name.
How long does print take?
One to four months. Print issues close well ahead of publication, so the lead time is set by the magazine’s production calendar.
