How long do guaranteed PR placements take?
From first call to live link • by outlet type • what speeds it up • what slows it down
Most guaranteed PR placements go live within one to two weeks of your approving the draft, and many within a few days. Across the 1,680+ online publications we place, 60% publish within a week of approval and 93% within two weeks. Print takes one to four months.
One to two weeks, most of the time
Measured from the day you approve the draft, because that is when the publication’s clock starts.
A guaranteed placement has two clocks. The first is ours: the consultation, the angle and the draft, which usually take a few days and depend partly on how quickly you review. The second is the publication’s: the window between receiving the approved article and publishing it. That second window is what your written scope commits to.
We looked at the stated turnaround for every online publication we place. 19% publish within three days of approval, 24% in three to five days, 17% in about a week, 33% in one to two weeks, and 6% take longer than two weeks. A small group of large Canadian dailies sits at four to six weeks.
Plan on this: two to three weeks from first call to live link for a typical online placement. If you have a hard date, tell us at the start, because the outlet you choose is the biggest factor in how fast it runs.
The timeline, from first call to live link
What happens at each stage and how long it usually takes.
| Stage | What happens | Typical time |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Consultation and scope | We cover your goal, audience and deadline, then confirm the outlet. You receive the publication, format, delivery window and refund terms in writing. | Same day to 2 days |
| 2. Angle and draft | Our writers develop the angle and write the article to the outlet’s standards. | 2 to 5 days |
| 3. Your review | You read the draft, request changes and approve it in writing. Nothing is submitted before this. | 1 to 3 days, set by you |
| 4. Publication window | The approved article goes to the publication and is published inside the window named in your scope. | 1 day to 2 weeks for most outlets |
| 5. Delivery | You receive the live link and guidance on using it on your site, profiles and sales materials. | Same day it publishes |
How long each type of placement takes
Typical publication windows after approval.
| Placement type | Typical window | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Digital news and trade sites | 1 to 5 days | Smaller editorial teams and fast publishing schedules. |
| Regional and metro newspapers | 3 days to 2 weeks | Articles are scheduled around the news cycle. |
| National and major-brand outlets | 1 to 2 weeks | More review steps before anything is published. |
| Some large dailies | 2 to 6 weeks | Longer internal queues. Your scope states the window up front. |
| TV segments | 1 to 2 weeks | Booked around the program’s taping and airing schedule. |
| Print magazines | 1 to 4 months | Issues close long before they reach the newsstand. |
Each outlet page in our publications directory states the typical turnaround for that publication. For example, see USA Today, Digital Trends or The Source.
What speeds a placement up, and what slows it down
Most delays happen before the article reaches the publication.
What slows it down
- Review by committee. Three people sending separate edits can add a week.
- Claims that cannot be supported. Everything in the article has to be true, so unverified numbers get cut or checked.
- Changing the angle after the draft is written.
- Legal or compliance review on your side, which is common in finance, health and law. Build it into the plan.
- Holidays and major news events, when publications run fewer scheduled pieces.
If timing is the main concern, the comparison in earned vs guaranteed vs paid media shows why pitched coverage cannot commit to a date at all, and how to get featured in major publications covers timing alongside cost.
